Another surprise from the guys at the Batman team. Director Christopher Nolan has approached the 62-year old singer and actress Cher to play Catwoman in the third Batman film.

Cher may be the oldest new name on the Batman cast list, but she isn't the most high profile one, as Johnny Depp has been signed on to play The Riddler.

A British newspaper reported that "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years.The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's purring creations."

The third film has tentatively been titled The Caped Crusader and is scheduled to start shooting early in 2009.
